Department: Commercial/Dispute Resolution

Part Time – Hybrid

The Role

Cognitive Law is a contemporary law firm based in Brighton, with a nationwide presence. It has a small but mighty Head Office in the Sussex Innovation Centre on the Falmer campus of the University of Sussex.

We are looking to employ a fee earner to assist the Managing Director with her case load of predominantly recruitment company clients. We don’t mind if you don’t have formal legal qualifications, it’s the right experience and attitude we’re looking for.

The work is fast paced, and quick-turnaround. It requires a commercial, pragmatic, and analytical mind. The caseload is a mixed bag of contentious and non-contentious commercial law with a smattering of employment law, acting for recruitment companies across the country.

The successful candidate must have previous experience as a Paralegal, Legal Executive or Junior Solicitor in a law firm, be able to work with minimal supervision, and feel comfortable in an outward facing role. Experience in the recruitment sector would be ideal but is not essential.

Initially the role would be office based but there is lots of scope for hybrid and flexible working. The role is part time but could grow to full time depending on the applicant, as there is a lot of scope for development for the right person.

The working hours are a minimum of 20 hrs per week, ideally spread across 5 days, however there is flexibility for the right person. Salary will be dependent on experience and qualification.

The Firm

Cognitive Law was founded in 2014 and although it is headquartered in Brighton, all the fee earners working with the firm do so on a virtual and flexible basis as self-employed consultants. This, however, is an employed role based in Brighton.

This role is based in Head Office where, overseen by the founding Managing Director, and her co-Director, the operations team provides financial, marketing, IT, and compliance support to the firm’s remote network of fee earners.

The Candidate

· Must have previous experience as a fee earner in a law firm.

· Must have a high level of IT experience with Office 365 and preferably with legal case management systems.

· Will be able to work without supervision and with initiative (after on-site training and induction)

· Will understand the compliance requirements set by the SRA.

· Must be committed to offering an exceptional standard of service.

Full training on internal procedures will be given.

The successful Candidate will be required to provide 2 references.
